Before You Say “I Do” – Strengthen Your Relationship with the Art & Science of Love Workshop

The question has been popped, the ring is on your finger, and the planning has begun!

There’s a lot that goes into turning your dream wedding into a reality: the ceremony, reception, guest list, dress, attendants, flowers, centerpieces... the list is miles long.

While you certainly need to plan for your wedding day, it’s even more important to plan for the rest of your married life together.

Before we consider the benefits of the Art & Science of love workshop, let's first discuss two common myths about counseling that might create hesitation for some couples.

Myth # 1:

“OPENLY DISCUSSING PROBLEMS COULD JUST BRING UP MORE PROBLEMS AND CREATE TENSION.”

This couldn’t be further from the truth. Discussing your problems is an open invitation for honesty. It’s important to vocalize the issues you have in order to find workable solutions. By remaining silent, problems can fester and resentment can build. In fact, the ASL workshop can give you the tools to have conversations about difficult or sensitive topics that will lead to greater understanding, trust and love.

Myth # 2:

“ONLY COUPLES WITH REALLY BIG PROBLEMS GO TO COUPLE’S WORKSHOPS.”

Even the healthiest of relationships hit road bumps at times. It is very productive to learn how to prevent or, at least, minimize those road bumps when they occur. Marriage is about sharing the ups and downs of life as a partnership. Establishing good relationship ‘habits’ now can pay off later.

Don’t let these myths deter you from enjoying the benefits of premarital counseling, including a lower risk for serious problems or even divorce. I have found the ASL workshop affords many advantages for my attendees in helping them secure a stable, satisfying marriage. Some of those benefits include the following:

*BETTER COMMUNICATION SKILLS

With the help of a professional, couples are encouraged to openly communicate their wants, needs, and expectations for their marriage. By learning how to openly communicate prior to getting married, you have a good head start on proper communication and problem solving which are essential to a satisfying marriage.

* CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Communication is a vital part of any healthy relationship. It’s also a key component in appropriately managing conflict. Conflict is inevitable in all relationships. The key to successful marriages is how you manage conflict and disagreements when they arise.

 * GAIN INSIGHTS

No matter how long you’ve been dating, there is still more to discover about your partner. Sometimes it’s a cute quirk, and sometimes it’s an annoying habit. During the ASL workshop, you’ll have conversations that you might not have in your daily life. You’ll learn things about your partner that you weren’t aware of before. Sometimes these conversations can be uncomfortable (i.e. discussion about past dating lives). But, with thoughtful guidance, you can be properly equipped to handle them.
